La Zclef, Your key usb internet online - model 2 (sshfs)

The mother Zaclys tests with you the key usb internet of the future (technology sshfs)

Advantages of this technology compared to the cloud service:

  • Safety: native encryption exchanges via ssh, no password
  • The speed: direct access to our servers by avoiding intermediaries (no script, apache and heavy orders as in webdav)
  • Total functionality: technically you have no limit, everything is possible as a true USB key which is not the case with webdav solution of a cloud service
  • you can connect your zclef several stations to use the same time and if you want more (locks for concurrency management)

Disadvantages compared to the cloud service:

  • less simple to set up (requires minimal dexterity computer, see the steps below)
  • more difficult to access from the corporate network (firewall / proxy may crash)
  • no web interface (the webcloud is accessible from anywhere) or by sharing link
  • dependence on internet access (if your ADSL box is down you no longer have access to the files on your zclef)

- this tutorial is written for users of linux (tested on fedora and ubuntu) and Mac osX .

- MacOS X in case of problems: see this feedback forum (Thank you to Romjean)

- for windows You will find a superb tutorial detailed and illustrated directed by Olivier By clicking here

How to open my zclef?

To use your storage space on the internet You must first create an account on our site and possibly join (See the top of the page).

The storage space is:

  • 1 GB for non-members (free)
  • 5 GB for Silver Members
  • 10 GB for Gold Members

Step 1: compatibility test

Open a terminal and test this command:

sshfs -V

(The "V" is in capital letters!)

If the answer looks like this, it's won:
SSHFS version 2.4
FUSE library version: 2.8.7
Fusermount version: 2.8.7

On the other hand, if the answer contains "unknown command" or "unknown command" it is lost: you must first install the fuse-sshfs package:

  • Debian / ubuntu: Sudo apt-get install sshfs Or via the package manager

  • Redhat / fedora: Sudo yum install fuse-sshfs Or via the package manager

  • Mac: install MacFuse

And re ...

Step 2: Test your Internet connection

If you are behind a corporate proxy / firewall or you have exotic security tools, the "door" used to "communicate" to our servers may be closed (technically port 22 should not be blocked in "Output" to use sshfs).

To test, open a terminal again and do:

Telnet 22

If you see in the answer "Connected to" or "Connected to" it's won!

On the other hand, if nothing happens for several seconds or you have an error message "no route", "impossible connection" etc ... it is lost. You can then check the "proxy" settings in your computer (including the socks proxy) and ask your network security manager to help you. You can also try from home or from another post.

Step 3: Prepare your password

For more security, we do not use a traditional password on this service, but an authentication certificate that you will create on your workstation and communicate us. Thus your post will be able to connect to your usb internet keys automatically without entering a password and with an increased security.

1 / Create your authentication certificate on your workstation (it will serve as a password)

Open a terminal, then do:
Ssh-keygen -t rsa

And validate all stepsWithout entering a "passphrase"To create your certificate that will normally be named "id_rsa"

NOTE: If your ssh certificate already exists you will have an explicit message, possibly in English Id_rsa already exists. Overwrite (y / n)? In this case answer no, needless to recreate it!)

2 / Verify that the certificate is created:

Open a terminal, then do:

Cat ~ / .ssh /

You should see a text of the form:

Ssh-rsa AAAAB3NzaC1yc2EAAAABAQDdsjybBdNBgek2O1UdyKJFl6xLFwv04 / hcbYWkLd8ik +
Y5VybLr4qNSfvfB7GFU2GvgHwXnDbiALV4rFF7n / 5uysQSVjqsdfd5f4sdf68z4fqsf1qs3d2
5UYXj2CIRo0JF4uzaroaV3 / dk / qXvF6ZmtLKRcW2FpmodcBvBAADAQABAoCI9QPL1oC / Lkv33

Select it with the mouse and copy it (right button / copy)

Step 4: request the opening of your usb internet key

If you have not already done so, please log on to the site: , Then using our Contact form Ask for the opening of your usb key and Paste in the message the certificate you copied in the previous step .

Validate and wait: at the moment we process the requests manually, if the service is used and acclaimed we will automate this step and you can do it by clicking a button.

As soon as the opening is done you will receive a confirmation mail with your ID number

Step 5: Connect your key (to be done once on your telephone)

1 / Create folder / media / zclef :

Open a terminal and add yourself to the "fuse" group:

Grep -q fuse / etc / group && sudo usermod -a -G fuse $ (whoami)

Then always in this terminal, pass root by doing:

sudo -i

Mkdir -m 777 -p / media / zclef
echo user_allow_other >>/etc/fuse.conf

NOW Disconnect from your linux (log on) and reconnect, so that your new privileges (group "fuse") are taken into account throughout your session.

2 / Test the connection manually and approve our server :

Open a terminal and do:

Answer "yes" to the question to approve our server (it will be white list on our computer), then the error message that arrives is NORMAL! The ssh connection on the server is blocked by security, do not alarm, again this step just serves to put our server on a white list on our computer.

Then replacing YOUR USERNAME By your ID number:

sshfs YOUR USERNAME @ / zclef / media / zclef

At the first login, your linux asks you to approve our server: accept, it will add us in the white list of your account ~ / .ssh / known_hosts

If you do not have an error message, the zclef is mounted (ie attached to your linux and accessible on the / media / zclef folder). You can check it by running the df command or the mount command from a shell, it is also visible from your file explorer.

3 / Modify the / etc / fstab file on your computer :

From the file explorer, go to the / etc folder and open the "fstab" file.
If you do not see it, open a terminal and do:

  • Linux gnome: Sudo gedit / etc / fstab
  • Linux kde: Sudo kate / etc / fstab
  • mac: ?

Then insert everything down, On one line And replacing YOUR USERNAME By your ID number:

YOUR USERNAME @ / zclef / media / zclef fuse.sshfs rw, user, noauto, port = 22, allow_other, reconnect, transform_symlinks, _netdev, BatchMode = yes 0 0

Save and exit

Step 6: Use your key

Your key should now be accessible from your file explorer, like a usb key:

It's finish ! Of course no need to repeat these steps the next time you go to re-light your post: everything is done once and for all and your zclef will remain accessible.

Step 7: To use your zclef on other workstations?

... yes you can use your zclef from several posts and at the same time if you want, just repeat steps 1 through 6 on each post! :)

Known problems to fix:

On some linux the mount point may disappear after a few days, redo:
Sudo mkdir -m 777 -p / media / zclef

  • by wanacloud (Zaclynaute) - 12/05/2017 10:26

    Merci Tito.

  • by tito (Zaclynaute) - 11/05/2017 14:07

    sudo mkdir -m 777 -p /media/zclef

  • by MarcDS (non connecté) - 22/09/2016 22:48
